The
assumption
that
all
Germans
condoned
the
way
Hitler
was
fighting
the
war
(and
treating
civilians)
cannot
be further
from
the
truth
–
just
like
not
all
whites
were
supporters
of Apartheid.
Several
attempts
were
made
to get
rid
of Hitler,
and
this
finely
crafted
film
from
the
director
of the
X Men
trilogy
manages
to turn
something
which
could’ve
been
a historical
footnote
into
a nail-biting
action-drama.
Visual
accuracy,
splendid
FX and
all-round
fine
performances
see
the
unfolding
of the
plot
to kill
the
world’s
biggest
monster
with
great
effect
(its
focal
point
Colonel
Claus
von
Stauffenberg,
the
man
at the
centre
of the
plot).
Even
if you
find
Tom
Cruise
to be
a very
strange
little
man,
he is
an absolutely
dedicated
actor
when
it comes
to climbing
into
a character's
skin,
as he
does
here
yet
again.
